Get to know Conor | New Sales Manager

Only having recently joined NTM-GB in October, Conor tells us what he already loves about his role and his plans for the Scotland area moving forward.

Since joining NTM, what have you enjoyed the most?

"I really like the culture of the company and staff, everyone has been very welcoming and helpful, it’s good to feel part of the team so quickly and to be given the tools to do my job as best I can. The onboarding process was also really smooth, my trip down to head office for the first week was planned well in advance by everyone involved and everything went like clockwork, everything I needed to do my job was ready to go for me heading home at the end of the week".

What is your background and previous job roles?

"I’ve been in sales since leaving high school, with over 10 years in the motor industry. Starting in car sales in 2015, I spent 8.5 years building a loyal customer base, becoming Motability accredited, and handling commercial vehicle enquiries. I progressed to a senior sales role, managing the forecourt, training new staff, and stepping in for management. Later, I transitioned to selling light commercials up to 7.5 tonnes and expanded into HGV sales. This experience gave me valuable commercial industry knowledge, ultimately leading to my current role".

What do you hope to bring to Scotland?

"I am hoping to bring a friendly and professional face to the Scottish Waste Management sector and provide people with the best solution for their needs. I want to grow our current, loyal customer base as much as possible whilst maintaining the highest level of customer service, something I really pride myself on because ultimately, no matter what someone sells, people buy from people".

What are your goals for 2025?

"My current goals for 2025 are fairly simple. I want to sow the seeds for a long and hopefully very successful career with NTM. I hope that further down the line I can progress within the group also. My personal goals are to make the most of my free time, camping and holidaying with my family, playing golf and riding my motorbike".

What does a typical day look like for you?

"A typical day would consist of visiting customers, explaining the values of our vehicles, responding to enquiries and questions. It’s key for me to be organised, I find it’s vital to have a plan for the week, even if it initially starts as a rough guide to visit customers in a specific area, it can change very quickly based on customers’ requirements, I like that, it keeps me on my toes and keeps me thinking. My role is customer oriented but a large part of it is business development. It’s a longer process than selling a car or a van, sometimes the decisions can take months, or more.

"My job is to make sure that what the customer is buying is the correct solution for their needs, it’s vital that the purchase stands the test of time and does the job. What is even more important is that the customer trusts me and the information I am giving them, I don’t want to just supply them vehicles, I want to be their first choice supplier".
